During pregnancy the ligaments become softer to allow the pelvis to expand during delivery. The soft ligaments can cause misalignments and pain. Chiropractic is safe for expectant mothers and their unborn babies at a time when medications are often unsafe for the unborn baby. Following delivery it is important to make sure the spine is properly aligned as the ligaments go back to their normal tension.

Chronic pain often is from spinal joints that do not move as well as they should. Joints do not have a lot of blood supply of their own, so they need to move to bring nutrients in and waste products out of the joint space. Joints that do not move properly can cause toxin build up which can lead to chronic joint pain. If they are joints of the spine, this can cause spinal nerve dysfunction and lead to other illnesses. An acidic diet also may contribute to chronic pain. Fortunately a more alkaline diet that includes daily fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, lean organic meats and plenty of water can reduce chronic pain.
