Florist Recycling Counts

“Recycling is a huge opportunity to extend the life of nearly every product we purchase. This simple action is one of the kindest and easiest efforts you can do for the earth. Its magnitude is so huge that the EPA reports nearly half of the world’s carbon footprint comes from all the things we buy,” shares Lynn Mehl, founder of Good Old Days Florist. If we reduced only 5% of our purchases, collectively we would save 127 million metric tons of CO2 emissions every year, or the equivalent of 24 million less cars, according to a 2009 EPA report.

Many of us have accumulated florist and gift items and we do not know what to do with them. Almost every container, vase, and basket arrangement has the potential for reuse. In 2002, Ms. Mehl began the Recycle Rewards Program which has since saved over 4000 items from the landfill by recycling, upcycling or reusing. Signing up earns you a free rewards card to be used every time you bring us items. When your card is full we gift you one of our eco-garden bouquets with a new card attached to start again. The more you recycle, the more you earn for your efforts and you alone saved one more piece of the planet.

In addition to the recycling program, Lynn Mehl uses only U.S. grown eco-flowers and earth friendly designs which support environmental and wildlife causes from all sales.
