Environmental Day Event Coming Soon

On Sunday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority will host its Fifth Annual Environmental Day, "Living Green in Rockland," at their facilities in Hillburn.

The event will feature over 40 exhibitors showcasing their environmental programs and services and will include the Rockland Recycles Awards ceremony. Tours of Rockland's Recycling and Environmental Education Center will be offered. Families receive a reusable tote bag with environmental products and information. Activities include an organic plant sale, how-to demonstrations, and chances to win rain barrels, compost bins and other prizes. Kids will enjoy live music with the Bossy Frog Band, balloon artist, raptor show, airplane simulators, environmental illustrator, kids yoga, and a tattoo and face painting station. "Come plant-a-seed, meet the Plastic Bag Monster and learn about Rockland services at the County's Command Vehicle and Fire Safety Truck,"says Kerri Scales, Education Coordinator.

"Many people are unaware of the services provided to them by the Solid Waste Authority," says Scales. "I hope you will take the time to visit with your family and friends to learn what Rockland has to offer in the way of green resources and programs." She encourages businesses and schools to apply for the Rockland Recycles Awards by visiting their website. Applications are due by April 18.

Cost: Free. Location: Torne Valley Rd., Hillburn. For more information on becoming an exhibitor or to volunteer, contact Kerri Scales at 753-2200 ext. 22 or visit RocklandRecycles.com.
